I just graduated with my Masters in Project Management and am now finishing up an MBA. I'll be taking the PMP exam this fall and want to break into project management - what advice would you have to a person in my situation - just starting out in the field? Thanks!

Hi Jennifer: Congratulations on your educational achievements! That is no easy feat! You will do very well on your PMP exam I am sure. You have already received excellent advice in the posts before mine - I would say "Hang on - Project Management is like tap dancing on a moving floor - but it is also very rewarding" - I love it! You have invested so much already in being prepared for this great career - I am sure you will succeed!

"Tap dancing on a moving floor"! What a great way to describe our profession. I agree though, it is very rewarding and there are not too many people who can do what we do!

Can I use that description in my book (attributed to you of course)?

Hi Ruth

While you currently have an education position as Asst Director at a university in the technical and science domain, I am not sure what community can best help. If starting a new career path in Transportation or Construction, I may be able to offer some information. I suggest you update your profile so the community knows the industry (Education), discipline (Management of programs and educators in science and technology), your education and past experience. This will enable the committee to focus responses more detailed than the generic application of PMBOK.
