I have been getting more involved with this forum lately and we often advise people to get in touch with their local chapter. I for one am a member of four "local" chapters, none of which is less that 1.5 hours away. That is not so bad, but I suspect that others are even more remote from their chapters.
Anyone who works from home is also limited in their choices.
Does anyone know of an online PMI chapter? If not, is anyone interested in figuring out how to start one?

Glad you think so.
There are several chapters that already provide online webinars, and there is no reason we cannot mentor via skype.
And it means we could attract a wider audience, greater diversity of experience and perspective. Instead of chapters by location, we could do chapters focused on particular industries or other areas of focus.
Open to any and all ideas....

I as well strongly believe it is an interesting idea and fully support it. This will help so many people on different levels Ruth of which mentoring is one of them.
Monthly meetings can be discussed online via conference video call, minutes can be distributed by email and so on.
It is exactly like the Virtual Conferences PMI introduced. Everyone can attend while sitting on their computer and benefit from those conferences. Of course, there is no comparison to being present in person and face to face interaction but it is something for sure. Saving Changes...

One idea would, like local chapters, have various themes for different types of meetings. For example, a topical meeting with a theme of Change Management. Using Skype, or Google Hangouts, all members can be visible, while discussing their thoughts. Saving Changes...
It is an interesting Idea
I would potentially be interested. Even if the local chapter is strong.
Permit a much larger choice of subject, in some field not cover locally.
Using Skype or Google Hangouts seems interesting Saving Changes...

Hi Ruth: I think it might be a good idea. I also drive a little over 2 hours one way to get my "local" PMI chapter. I have never had a meeting yet where I was disappointed I made the trip. My local chapter is so inspiring and motivating, and I use the road trip time listen to webinars on my way to double or triple my PDU's! Saving Changes...
