At HIMSS 2017 keynote, Ginni Rometty, CEO of IBM, announced that the "Era of Cognitive" has arrived in the Healthcare Industry and went on to talk about the progress done by Watson Health? Do you think Cognitive is the next big wave in the Healthcare Industry?

You can see Ginni's thoughts at: https://ramadvice.wordpress.com/2017/02/21...tty-himss-2017/

Thanks Ram. Looking at the article , it seems like Cognitive may expand way beyond the Health Care industry and may be applicable to any industry

Hi Ram,

I think the benefit from Cognitive Intelligence will be in helping us evaluate vasts amounts of data. However, I think we are quite far away from showing predictive value of intelligent systems. The concept of health is complex and inconsistently defined. Perhaps Cognitive can bring us closer to holistically identifying the patterns of health.

Thank you for sharing your takeaways from an interesting session.

Thanks Romiya for your insights.

I agree that we are still a long way from getting the predictive technology. But, one interesting tidbit that I kept hearing during HIMSS 2017 was that CAD is making a comeback and probably now it is in a much better shape than it ever was. If that is so, then we are beginning to take baby steps in that direction... Of course, the trust building with the practitioners needs to be done gradually and this might take a long time...

You hit upon a great point -- trust building with practitioners. It is important to recognize the psychosocial barriers to change, especially a change to be deployed in a complex, adaptive system such as healthcare system.
