This all comes with experience Naomi ... Experience is the best teacher of all times especially when it comes to EQ.
I am not sure EI can be learned. It really depends on a person's mindset. If it is a fixed mindset they may never learn and keep repeating the same experiences/lessons over and over again as Ruth has suggested. But, if a person has a growth mindset, they are open to changing and learning new things, as well as, learning from their experiences.

Good point Demetrius.... Here is a link about mindsets for those who don't know what you are referring to. https://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/dwecks-mindsets.htm
Carol Dweck's work is great. And we can learn a growth mindset too!

Good score; were you surprised? A little room for improvement which is another topic.
Let me start another discussion on this personal growth and development and SWOT Analysis. Personally, I've used a form of these templates and have downloaded these to use for coaching project managers.
Naomi, I can not say I was surprised; but I accept my score and look forward to improving based on what I have learned from the score / experience. I am interested in the discussion on personal growth and development, as well as, SWOT analysis.

Thank you for sharing the quiz. I love the breakdown of the scores into the categories of self Awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skills. My score was 66 and the breakdown helps to identify where there is still room for improvement.
This was great.
Your welcome; it's good to have more leadership discussion here since it's the third tenet of the PMI Triangle.

Demetrius, Ruth & Mayta,

I totally agree with all of you and this is what I was trying to explain but I should have elaborated more. EQ is earned not learned and it indeed depends on the person's mindset.

I was trying to say that EQ can't be lectured through classes or courses, etc but you earn it through experience.

Mayta,

You keep changing your mind a lot depending on where the flow goes :D

Demetrius:
You must be in the right mindset to be open to learning in order to grow, change and transform.

Rami:
I'm not sure experience is the best teacher if you continue to repeat the same mistakes and don't learn from them. Also, you may have to use different behaviors in different situations with different people and in different cultures so practice, feedback, training and support from a mentor, coach and sponsor is important.

Ruth:
Agree, and you've posted some great information here for the community!

Naomi:

I usually agree with you Naomi but I will have to disagree this time. EQ can't be coached and even if you take training, I do not believe it will be very efficient when it comes to this specific subject. This is my personal opinion and experience.

Experience is the best teacher but that's only if you are willing to learn from your mistakes. This depends on the person and this is something earned, not learned. Experience will never be a good teacher if you keep repeating your mistakes again and again - This not only applies to EQ but in everything else in your life and I trust this is irrelevant as it goes without saying that you need to learn from your mistakes in order to advance.

Certainly respect your opinion but wholeheartedly agree to disagree and that's ok. EQ and the four core areas is learned through practice, feedback, learning to change your behaviors in certain situations etc. and this can be done with the assistance of a mentor, coach and/or sponsor. EQ takes time to acquire competency but you work on it one day at a time. Cheers!
