PMP Exam Prep, xth Edition: Rita's Course in a Book for Passing the PMP Exam, by Rita Mulcahy
Rita does a very good job presenting the basics of project management. Thoroughly understanding the essentials has helped enabled me to be very flexible, which is essential as a consultant. As a result, I've been able to practice project management in many different industries, and rapidly adjust to new organizational cultures and difficult project situations with relative ease. I got my PMP nine years ago and used this book to study for it; I still have the book, and sometimes refer to it when practicing in a new industry as a way to 'reset' my perspective.
