I am a new PM working on a Web redesign for a quasi-government organization. My boss got promoted 2-weeks into my stint and now, 2 months in, we are losing our developer! These issues I am handling, but what I feel I need is some advice on making sure I remember every little detail for content, production and tech. I have no assistants and answer to managers who have not been intimately involved in the details of the project. Of course I have a project plan and keep all important emails, but I still feel like some things get missed and I need to know if anyone has a surefire strategy for staying on top of things in a cross-departmental, cross-functional environment.

Dear Anonymous, it sounds like your web-design project is more than just a small project effort! You might want to use work packages and work package lists to keep track of the details wrt WBS descriptions, acceptance criteria, predecessor tasks, successor tasks, inputs & outputs, resources, etc. Even if you are the only project resource per se, this might save you a great deal of re-work and cobbling together of those emails down the road. Good luck! -- Mark Perry, VP of Customer Care, BOT International

Thanks Mark, but now the project is over and I am off to a new company. I basically handled things without using a formal PM process (such as work packages, and AON networks) simply because they were not interested. Where in the country are you located?

Mark, I intend to take you up on that offer to call. I am relocating to Atlanta and trying to get a PM job there --either assistant or coordinator to start -- I am eager to learn and am very organized. I would love to consider you a kind of mentor during my initial move into the field; is that OK? I will contact you sometime next week.
