Hello All,

I would like to know from your experiences if growth of a person or organization should be measured in terms of people added to the team OR should be measured in terms of deliverables provided and value they generated.

I have seen couple of welcome mails in which it was mentioned that X person helped grow the Y team from 100 people to 2000 strong team. But instead I was expecting to know the deliverables the person or team gave after reaching to 2000 mark. So in this case the team grew, but did the organization/team also grew in terms of maturity and value generation ? this is not mentioned anywhere.

I also understand that growth in terms of people is also necessary but I also think that each person added should also bring in more knowledge and wisdom to the team.

So how do you measure maturity and value add (or any other relative metric) ? Is there and specific way that you use in your projects

This also relates back to one's CV and years of experience. Is it simply the number of years, or a combination of number and value/results? Its about the story, not just the number of pages.

Value and maturity with an organization, for an individual, and post acclimation period, is important and comes when the person is able to see past his or her specific duties and more into the greater purpose and basis for the role.

Generally, organizations have yearly performance evaluations for employees in which the employee is required to set goals each year, covering specific areas; with mid and end year reviews with their manager. From this, the value for employees is measured, albeit in general terms.

From a team perspective, I suppose it is the deliverables of the team that will measure their value. Is there a formal process there? I don't know. I can say that our team has a process to capture value.

This actually ties into Knowledge Management. Capturing and writing about what is and was done - with the value.

Good discussion post Saurabh.

None of them. In fact, that is in collision with things most of the companies around the world are looking for in the last 20 years.

Growth of an organization should be considered in terms of revenue and thereafter head count; whereas growth of an individual should be considered in-
quality deliverables
knowledge and technology expertise
people management skills
delegation
