We are now seeing automation taking a bigger part in our daily life with humans being replaced in Call Centres etc. In the UK nearly every ad break has a human being talking to a robot asking it to remind them to do something.
This got me thinking...
Will there come a time when the role of the PM is replaced by a robot? Saving Changes...

Luckily technology is not there yet. Robots and artificial intelligence are progressing at lighting speed, but I believe that they are not (yet) ready to efficiently communicate with project stakeholders or team members. Implementing soft skills in a robot, I think that technology is not quite there. Very good topic! Saving Changes...

No. Communication, negotiation, empathy, decisions based on multiple factors, scenarios, emotion ... there is too much of the human element to be a viable candidate for replacement.

I totally agree with you Andrew - It is difficult to replace those things but not impossible.
Malcolm, this is a great question and the discussion this is becoming interesting.

In my personal opinion Robots unless coupled with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning that may render them close to human traits, may not replace Humans Saving Changes...

I got my Master Degree on AI before AI becomes a buzzword. Inside the group of professors there were some of the "fathers" of AI. He said: "AI entities will replace Human Being entities the same day than AI entities could site in the toillet to relieve oneself while reading the newspaper". Beside that, I am making research on quantum computing right now.

A robot could replace a Project Manager only if humans were 100% logical, rational, selfless and honest creatures. Therefore, it cannot happen.

Yes, but once robots have replaced the rest of the project team, there'll be no need for a PM.
Love this question, I think some parts of project management could be replaced by a robot. For example, it would be nice to have a robot to be in charge of the integrated master schedule, but couldn't completely take it over. Still need a human to note nuances in ability, personality of resources and be able to update appropriately. Sergio's comment on AI's replacing humans when they can relieve oneself while reading the paper, funny stuff. But in all seriousness, our brains are amazing and at this point in time, we haven't truly figured out how to replicate our extraordinary abilities via robots. Saving Changes...
