Dear the project team directory contains members responsible for project management activities throughout the project phases and are part of stakeholders list.

In a way, it is a list for the stakeholders which normally includes team members that are hands-on on the project but can also include other major stakeholders.

I think these two are different; but each could include members from each group. I think if your students understand the purpose of each; this would assist them in understanding. The stakeholder list may include project team members; but will most likely include anyone affected positively or negatively by the project. The stakeholders may also include people within and outside the organization.

I think project team directory has resemblance to Resource Breakdown Structure with regard to Pmbok... It's all the core members of the project team that help deliver the project. Stakeholders are a superset and may contain the management and project governance people like senior managers, sponsors, executive directors who are essentially stakeholders but do not participate in the day to day execution of the project

In the light of above answers, i don't find any difference between stake holders list and project team directory.

I would still like to say they are different... Stakeholder list is a superset and project team directory is a subset

For me this was most true in working on internal product delivery. The stakeholder list was huge! Over 20+ various departments with a vested interest in the ultimate outcome of the project, but not involved necessarily in the day to day workings of the project. I had multiple distribution lists, but for the purposes of this post - two distinct ones. A full stakeholder list that would include the project stakeholders for status reports, and program reviews. Another list for the working project team who were involved in the day to day project work, change requests, build, test, etc.

I think of the project team directory as a phone book. It lists the names of the project team and contact information. Also, you can include the RACI chart within the project directory. The directory is also public information.
The stakeholder list is confidential and is either in the control of the senior project manager and or project sponsor. It is constantly updated, has contact information, and other "personal" information about the stakeholders.

Success. The sixth edition of PMBOK has a new topic to resolve. By definition "project team directory" consists of members in the directory "who directly support the project manager in performing the work of the project to achieve its objectives." This may include Stakeholders - "who may affect, be affected by, or perceived itself to be affected by a decision, activity, or outcome of a project." In practical applications the Directory is the names, titles and communication information for all persons that the PM will contact to directly or indirectly influence or affect the project. The specific roles and responsibilities will be contained in the PMP.
