Hello all,
I have moved to the US from Russia 6 years ago and had to start everything from the scratch. I got my PMP certification but having trouble finding a project management position due to the lack of experience. I would love to hear your success stories and what have you started with on your way to becoming a project manager. I am currently holding an entry level management position with Verizon but unfortunately, there are little to no project related experience. I was looking at the volunteering activities as well but not sure where to start with. All and any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you, I will start reading the thread now. Naomi, could you also suggest the best way to look for a mentor? Would it be through my local chapter or I can find one here? Thanks again for your advice
I just posted information to a publication that is chockfull of great information, links and tips. You will find information regarding mentors as well you should follow up with your local chapter.

Thank you for your advice. Even though I have about 3 years of project experience from Russia and my PMP certification is seems impossible to find a job. I would be willing to do volunteering work as long as it will help me to get where I want to be.
Actually, certification gives you the edge, project experience comes only by getting involved. Agreed, opportunities are less.

I think getting connected should also include referring or recommending someone for an opportunity or at least posting any open position one may come across.
