'advanced' and 'intermediate' are subjective terms; all that matters is that you can do the work. Ask them what Excel-related tasks they want you to perform, and you either have the skills to do them or you don't.

I agree with what our colleagues mentioned above. As long as you can do the job, that's all what matters and having intermediate experience in Excel snould not be a deal breaker as long as you have the right BA Experience.

Based on experience, proficiency in MS Excel is a must. In some companies, BA tasks and responsibilities encompasses data analysis using MS Excel and MiniTab for special data analysis, generation of reports, automation of trackers and templates using VBA (macros) for process efficiency and accuracy of reports. To set the proper expectation, some employers will require you to undergo a skills proficiency test to gauge your MS Excel skills.
You can be straightforward to the interviewer that you don't know everything about MS Excel but you are open minded and willing to undergo training if needed. This could be a weakness but you can turn this around by informing the interviewer that you are doing something to turn this weakness to a strength by studying. You Tube offers MS Excel tutorials if you need to harness your MS Excel skills. You can highlight your other skills to compensate for this.
In my previous team, not all BAs know how to do VBA and other MS Excel but these BAs have outstanding training, facilitation and public relation skills. They usually handle the client/stakeholders presentation and training. But of course, they also took the initiative to learn the needed MS Excel skills because they are not always conducting presentations and training.

I agree with you completely, I have intermediate knowledge in MS Excel and this is not bad, I always use the YouTube to learn something new. I love this way for learning. This company doesn't need to MS excel, they even not mention it in the requirements, but sometimes when they noticed you have the required knowledge for the position and they didn’t like you, they start to provide any excuse to not give you the job :). Thank you!

Sorry, I do not want to be rude, but thinking about a BA (if BA means business analyst) must know about a tool is do not understand what a business analyst role is. Saving Changes...

I agree with Sergio. It quite possibly may be titled as a BA job, but the duties are not.
Frankly speaking, as long as you know enough of the fundamentals to apply what you find using Google, you'd be fine.
tl;dr - How are your Google'ing skills : ) Saving Changes...

And tried to add something to Craig, comments you can search,"underlaying competences" inside IIBA's BABOK or th PMI guides. When you see,it you, will, find that knowledge about how to use software tools will be there. But it does mean the same knowlege to use any type of software or office tool ( for example a,browser) Saving Changes...

Thanks for your reply, the position not included any (MSEXCEL skills) even they not mentioned it. The position needs someone to conduct the interviews and analysis the data by using statistical software, then represents it in flowchart. I have intermediate knowledge in Excel and this is not bad. However, I am professional VBP, SPSS and NVivo. Thanks again? Saving Changes...
