'advanced' and 'intermediate' are subjective terms; all that matters is that you can do the work. Ask them what Excel-related tasks they want you to perform, and you either have the skills to do them or you don't.
Loved your answer, thanks a lot!

I agree with what our colleagues mentioned above. As long as you can do the job, that's all what matters and having intermediate experience in Excel snould not be a deal breaker as long as you have the right BA Experience.
I agree with you totally. I wish I can meet a hiring manager like you :), thanks a lot!

As you have mentioned the hiring manager is "concerned" about your intermediate skills, you need to clarify with him the scope of your tasks and responsibilities when you follow up with him in the next few weeks.. Hiring managers always set the minimum job requirements/qualifications needed for the job such as proficiency in MS Excel, minimum years of work experience etc. which is usually posted in the job opening. It is their prerogative. Some would even include in the job posting, candidates who do not possess the above qualifications need not apply. For the meantime, work on your MS Excel skills while waiting. I wish you only the best. Good luck!

This position was not included any (MSEXCEL skills) and even they not mentioned it. The position needs someone to conduct the interviews and analyze the data by using statistical software, then represents it in flowchart. I have intermediate knowledge in Excel and this is not bad, I know the interviewing and data analyzing process. Hiring Manager confirmed my experiences, but his concerned about MS Excel intermediate skills. I informed him, I can go through online training for MS Excel Advanced skills, he said Ok. But I am not sure what his decision later. Thank you!?

By the way, before you run the data analysis using statistical software i.e. MiniTab or any related software they use, you have to do some data "scrubbing", check data integrity and to be able to do that you need advanced MS Excel skills. Anyway, you still have a few weeks to work on your MS Excel.Highlight on your other strengths such as your are trainable, open-minded, etc. Attitude can make a difference.

I understand why they didn't mention it because it is already given that once you apply for that position, you have acquired that skill already. It is a minimum skill requirement set by some hiring managers and it is their prerogative.
You have mentioned, the hiring manager informed you that you have to run some data using statistical software. Before you do that you have to do some data scrubbing and check for data integrity and you need advanced MS Excel skills. Then, you can run the data using the statistical software i.e. MiniTab or any related software they use.
Anupam gave you the list of advanced MS Excel functions, you can work on that.
You have a few weeks to go so you have enough time on work on it. Good luck and I wish you the best!
