I am currently working on defining a Charter for an ebusiness Project that is composed of three major components:
- Building Web portal
- Building a Workflow based system taht is accessible through the web (Extranet)
- Building Interfaces of the web portal to Back-end Business Systems (SAP, GIS, ...)

I am looking for lessons learned from your experience (What to do and what to avoid) to ensure a successful implementation.

Thank you in advance

Dear Anonymous, good post! I am not quite sure if you intended to build all of this from scratch or use vendor solution components. One lesson learned is that for some of the components, though it may seem to be a good idea to build a one-of-a-kind solution from scratch, over time it may be more cost effective to use best of breed vendor platforms. Much of your project - a web portal, extranet accessible workflows, interfaces to back-end systems - is fairly standard and available technology. Sounds like an exciting project effort. Good luck. -- Mark Perry, VP of Customer Care, BOT International
