When my boss and I have contrasting opinions, he seems to take credit after realizing that I was right despite initially acting dismissive at the time I advised him.

I have a feeling that this could be caused by not communicating effectively, how do you communicate efficiently with stakeholders when you have a difference in opinion?

You can share and convey your ideas and/or recommendations through emails or discussion threads (depends on your organizational tools). Rationalizing those ideas and recommendations with additional context, information, benefits, etc., will aide in supporting your thoughts.

For instance, if an IT project, and you feel as though by doing things a different way will introduce increased scalability for future efforts, you have a clear recommendation with rationale that can be communicated to the stakeholders.

Document everything you want to discuss / present to your boss, schedule a meeting, and communicate your plans clearly.

Try to write the minutes ASAP after the meeting, send the minutes to your boss, and get the acceptance.

Your boss is an stakeholder. Perform stakeholder analysis process like you do with any other stakeholder in your organization or the project you are asigned.

Agree with you Sergio.
When you analyze him/her/them, you can develop strategies to get the most effective support possible and reduce potential obstacles sooner rather than later.
