Don't seem people have bimodal context!

BiModal is when you have both Agile and Waterfall within the project.

I have attended first PPM Conference of Garner in UK last year June, where they presented BiModal. For me, the concept is yet to fully implemented as there are still concerns on implementing Agile method for projects especially in the infrastructure side. Donna explained the possible ways of implementing a BiModal, roles and responsibilities of PMO in the conference.

This project appears to have been done as agile and waterfall too... it doesn't appear to be a great advertisement for this approach...

Hi Tim, I will consault the link.
Not all project succeed, sometimes it is not the way the project is done that cause the failure.

I did not realize it was actually a thing. Based on the article provided by Vincent, I suppose we are Bimodal. Not formerly, but informally, as in picking the best tool for a given job, based on, but not limited to, expectations, and expected level of change. As mentioned, the key is success. Whether I go one way or the other, the goal is a finish line.

Interesting. TIL : )

Andrew, thanks for you input.
I think in some project mix approach (Bimodal) can increase success rate.

First of all, Agile and Waterfall are not matter of comparision. The first one is an approach and you can apply that approach with any process life cycle. The second one is a project life cycle process. I was the leader in 2003 of a hugh project that wins a PMI's award. The project includes the whole enterprise architecture transformation thru the "on demmand buisness" model. To do that, we have multiple programs/projects running at the same time where we use the approaches, life cycle models, life cycle process, methods (including our own methods) to create the whole solution. The conclusion is simple: nothing new behind the sun if you really understand what to be a program/project manager is. The problem in general is people, including those that earn a certification, do not understand that. The acid test is simple: putting the question "what is a project manager?" and you will surprise.

Sergio always enjoy you post, bring different light.
You are right that both are not exactly in the same kind. Every thing in a Program don't need to use same tools, technique, or approaches.
