When you wish to assign a PM to an Agile project, how do we estimate their hours? In this scenario, the PM is not the scrum master. We still have to follow project governance, etc. Does anyone have a link possibly to a PM estimator tool for Agile projects? Or other advice? Thank you. Saving Changes...

First, you have to understand that Agile something does not exists. What exists is project mangement perormed in some way (PMI way for example) into Agile environments. And Agile is not IT or software related only, is not a method of methodology, is not a process. So, if you are talking about project manager inside a former Agile Software Development method (today some of them like SCRUM or DSDM are Agile Solution Delivery Method) you have to take into account the role definition inside the method itself. But if you are talking about Agile in general, after more than 30 years to work with Agile, is the same than other initiatives: 20%-25% depending on your organizational maturity about project management.

Sergio, Thank you. That makes sense. Therefore, if we estimate that we need 1.34 Project Managers on a traditional waterfall project, if I understand you correctly, we could estimate that same 1.34 for an Agile project? We are doing Agile in my organization now after several very large proof of concepts. I have been asked to tweak a PM estimator tool to take into consideration our ever growing list of Agile projects. On an initial pass, the PM's managing Agile didn't see any need to change the estimation based on methodology. Sounds like they are in agreement with your view.

We are in agreement. This is what I research and experience after more than 30 years to work in Agile environments (software and non software). As you know, estimation is a field where you have a lot to take into consideracion because no matter the estimation method you use you ever has a variable which is highly dependent on adjust it to several circunstances. As you know, estimation depends on two factos: information and time. Saving Changes...
