The management has committed a project completion date and forcing the same on the project team, but the project manager has performed an estimation for the same project and it is just not possible for the team to complete the project even if they work overtime, weekends, holidays. How as a Project Manager I should handle this situation? Saving Changes...

This is a common problem, mindlessly committing to timeline which is not possible, Cut the scope or compromise quality these are only ways.
People want to have baby in 1 month by adding 9 resources :-) ? , if it takes time means it takes ,compressing/pressing/pushing/punishing nothing really works, this will not go into people mind. They will realize once everything screwed but will do the same thing again in another project

Either they flip the bill for more resources, extend the timeline, or de-scope. As a PM, our job to be honest and transparent, all in the goal for success of the project and a satisfied client.

Hi Aejaz,
i do assume that scope is defined and estimations are done.
If so, you need to apply all the instruments which are given like crashing, forcing the schedule, reduce the scope and/or quality .. like my fellows already mentioned.
You need to document all this activities so you can present your management.
If all these doesn't help to reach the given date then you need to work out some recommendations what management could do/decide.
If you where plausible then maybe they will revise the target date.
If not and you are still convinced that it can't be done then you should decline the role of PM for this project (i know that this is often not possible).
All the best.

I've gone through with one of the largest technology firms on the planet. Our team worked for two days to refine all the estimates, collect the available resources, build out a solid timeline and then late on a Friday afternoon we presented it to executive management, only to find out they had already promised it for an earlier quarter. After a lot of back and forth we stated our professional position, they stated their position and suggested we get started Monday morning with the collected resources and budget. We got started on Monday morning. Saving Changes...

My day to day work life. 1-Talk with the Top Management with all the data on hand to work with them to find the way to achieve the Top Management defined dates. 2-If there is no way to get an agreement record all the risk and assign them to the Top Management. The Top Management must work with you to find the risk management strategies for each risk. You have ever remember: the project is started because the Top Management need the project to achieve their objectives. Saving Changes...
