I am currently enhancing my project management skills by leading several projects and learning more about the business through knowledge transfer from courses or from attending meetings with management team.

Seif: Have you considered a niche or categorization where you want to form your company? If so, will the projects you are currently pursuing help you gain experience, both specific and general that will move you toward your goal?

Great. My brother did much the same thing as you some years back. Finally decided that he wanted to work only wholesale and with contractors to supply home appliances, to new projects and renovations. Found a ready audience with the contractors as he made direct deals with manufacturers--reducing the prices, and arranging direct delivery at a much lower cost. He found a niche, with a higher margin than the distributors.

I attended the professional development conference for my local PMI chapter, last week. One of the keynotes made an interesting point that may or may not be relevant outside of the US - I'm not sure. He said that if you want to be an executive, you are in the wrong field. Most of the time, Project Managers are not promoted to executive positions. Those positions are usually filled from Sales or Marketing.

Aaron, I tend to agree. In Seif's case, a path might be from projects to programs, then on into an operational area to gain more general management experience.

Seif, that kind of path is what we discussed briefly early as a way to get to your goal of creating your own firm. Levels of experience--looking at things from both sides will help develop a perspective on how you want to manage and operate your own firm.
