I am a student studying online and for one of my assignments I am required to work in a project team to develop a schedule management plan.
Task 1. Write a brief summary (no more than 500 words) of your contribution assisted in determining the duration and effort, sequence and dependencies of tasks to meet project objectives. You should provide evidence for each of your contribution activities.

How would I go about doing this without being in a project team or without having a project to begin with? I'm finding it hard to correspond with my program facilitator and he can't seem to answer my simple question. Is it possible to do this activity without a project team? And would I need to start a project from scratch to complete this task and assignment?

Please tell me your thoughts. So frustrating emailing back and forth not getting a proper answer to my question.

Your best bet would be to imagine a Project . Take something as simple as Building an Online Project submission system.

Think of the tasks involved in developing this system. At the bare minimum you will need to develop an online form with details screen where you enter your name, student id , an attachments field to upload your completed project

You will also need username and password to access this form, therefore you need a task to develop the security system

You will also need a database to store the details submitted, therefore you need to develop a database management system

Your list of tasks is essentially your work break down structure (WBS). once you have it all on the page (and you can use a mind map here) you know what your task list is.

Then you would know that you need an input form first before you can store data in the database and before you have an input form, you will need to login so you need the login page. that's your sequence of tasks.

Your evidence can be wire frames, screenshots, mind maps or Work Break down structure using a VISIO, Microsoft word or any such tools

It may roughly be a month's effort based on Development and Testing to build this and you may have to imagine a team of developers , testers and you as the Project Manager

Pieta:
Think of projects you've done at home, school team projects/assignments or a volunteer activity with a group.

Remember a project can be defined as a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product or service.

i.e.: A home project, an online school project, a volunteer project, or look for a community project and use it as an example.

Thank you Naomi,

I really appreciate your advice. I'm on the right path now. I'm going to use a simple event I did as the project. So excited and most thankful.

It looks like everyone has already given you some great ideas. If you have any issues creating this, refer to PMBOK 5 page148 section 6.1.3.1-Schedule Management Plan. Remember the plan establishes how the project will be completed and with what accuracy and control measures. It's an input that will lead to the outputs such as activity list and attributes, and your milestone list.
Also don't forget PMBOK 5 p 143 6-1 Project Time Management Overview.
Good luck.
