We are in the early stages of procuring a PPM system, very likely to be MS Project online due to a number of factors.

I am struggling to foresee how we will manage resource forecasting. Currently we have a number of spread sheets, a single spread sheet defining resource supply, and a number of spread sheets detailing resource demand, across service teams (typically flat-lined demand) and project teams.

The demand is not a major issue, though I would like a simple mechanism of entering flat-line demand from the service teams as they will mot be familiar with MS Project.

The main issue I see us having is in managing the supply. We have approaching 200 heads, with around 60 contractors, and a up to 20-30 heads seconded. How are users managing this in MS Project.
Example of data
Joe Bloggs, Project Manager, Permanent Role, Start date 1st Jan 2017, no end date as perm
Joe Bloggs, Architect, secondment, start date 1st June 17, end date 31 July
Alan Smithee, Service Desk Tier 1, contractor, start date 1st Jan, end date 14 Feb, 0.6 FTE

Are there any tools that interface with MS Project and allow better resource management functionality.

Great question and I've never had to manage that many resources at one time, here are a few tools and resources I found that may be helpful.

On this site, go up to the menu Knowledge & Tools Choose Resource Management from the categories on the left hand side.

Another area that may have resources, go to Practice Areas View All Scheduling.

Good luck!
