What does mean "is not clear"? The key to understand communication is Shannon Theory. From that theory you can understand all related to communication and new buzzwords like "Digital"something. As you know you have a data source, a data destination, a message, a transmiter, a receiver, a mean where the message is sent. You can have some "noise" that transform the data. So, you have to search inside it. For example, the transmiter send "data" that the receiver must transform into "information". Here comes what most of the people call "communication problems". If we are talking about persons then the transmiter and the receiver must be in the same frecuency which implies lot of things (level of knwoledge for example). My recommendation: take a close look to Shannon theory. Saving Changes...

^ Yes, that about sums it up, looking at the core of it. Great response Sergio. In my mind I had a different response, but really, it would have been just a noisy version of yours : ) Saving Changes...

When communications are not clear, check for clarification.
Whatever you deem is not clear should be communicated back to the TL for clarification or confirmation.
For example, if the TL sent an email on Monday morning that requires all deliverables to be submitted on Friday.
For all we know, it is the Friday of the same week or 3 weeks later. Due by CoB (close of business) vice midngiht. If communication is not clear because directives are open-ended. It is up to the project team to get the TL into a better habit by asking close-ended questions to clarify.
For the example stated, I will ask if the deadlines are due close of business Friday, the "enter the date" or do we have a grace period up to midnight local time? In my experience, confusion starts with generalized directives, find a way to get your manager to give targets that are fixed. I hope this helps with your inquiry.

I agree, thanks for putting it nicely Saving Changes...
Hi Rapeepat, poor communication is one of the main causes of project failure so it is important to act on this issue! I think Sergio and Edward have offered some very useful tips. I would also like to share an article on dealing with poor project communication which may be helpful,

If the Team Leader says anything or sends anything that is not clear , ask him/her the question to clarify the bits that are unclear. Like Sergio said there are five steps in the communication Model
Encode :- The Team Leader composes their message -vocal , written words Transmit :- Uses a medium to transmit - email or phone call or face to face Decode :- The person who receives tries to make sense of what was sent Acknowledge :- The person who receives notifies the sender that they received the message Feedback :- The person who receives asks more questions regarding the message and suggests alterations/improvements/clarifications
The noise is anything that is garbled or not understood while encoding and decoding messages. If you don't ask questions, you will never receive clarifications. Saving Changes...
