Hail and well met!

I am super excited to be joining the community on the back of taking up a new role as a project manager in Dublin, Ireland. The reason for my post is two fold. Firstly I'd like to greet the community. You all seem like a friendly and talkative bunch from the articles and discussions I have read.

Secondly, I'd like to reach out and see if anyone out there might have relevant experience with my job role area and be able to provide me with an did few insights or lessons learned. I am moving into a role as a PM for software localisation and whilst I am reading up on lots of general PM stuff, I'd love to hear about some specifics related directly to Localisation.

If there is anyone there who would be interested in talking to me in a little more detail, please feel free to contact me. I'm not looking for a mentor as such, but a guiding hand would be most welcome.

To those I've not yet met, hello, it's nice to meet you!

Welcome aboard Tom. I've not been involved in software localisation (that's translating using interfaces for different countries, aligning softwrae to local regulations etc, right?) , but no doubt someone on here will have...

Welcome to this amazing community, and congrats for the new role. Did you try to reach your local chapter? Maybe they can provide you a direct contact to guide you.

Welcome!

Is your software vendor able to provide language packs, or are you dealing with manual translations and having developers search through code to find every message that gets displayed that also needs translated?

I'm honestly humbled by so many replies already. Thank you so much for the warm welcome. I am very keen to be the best PM I can!

I suppose to generally answer the bulk of questions above rather than making a meal of replying to everyone I am going to be working for a video game company in Dublin. I haven't reached out to my local chapter yet. Is that easy enough to find?

Localisation, at least in terms of my position will be taking in game text and audio and translating it into different languages to be used in different countries. Anyone who could help me to identify a reasonable WBS or risks would be of great help as that is one of the areas the books can't help me :)

Hi Tom,

I only can provide you the PMI Ireland website www.pmi-ireland.org because I always worked with software that provides packages for different languages, then the risks, tests, and others will be completely different to yours.

Good luck with your new project and keep in touch,
