I am interested in getting my PMP certificate and would like to take a 5 day crash course to help me train for the test. I see a few programs that vary in price but all "guarantee passing". Does anyone have a recommendation for the most effective and valuable program to take?

Thank you for any help you can provide!!

My personal experience .

No training course can guarantee a Pass. At best it provides guidance on what to focus on, gives some more practice exams and points you to reference books .

It's how much effort you personally put in that will guarantee success

My training course provided valuable inputs regarding the following

Pay special attention to Earned Value Management
Contracts Management , Risk Management , Quality Management are difficult topics .
Pay special attention to the ITTOs in those as well as the Quality Tools and how and why these are used.

check the syllabus of the training course and see what they cover .

Thank you for your responses. This is a completely new field for me as I am making a career change from investment sales in the financial world. I was suggested if I were to go through this, I should get my PMP liscence first.

Any recommendations on where I should start on getting the best knowledge and experience in the field would be tremendous as well.

Thank you again!

Agreed with Deepesh, you can go for any training institute but there is no guarantee that you will be passed.
Passing PMP is more about how experienced you are in the field, how thoroughly you have read PMBOK and how well you are scoring in simulation exams.
Trainers can certainly provide you some good tips for the exam preparation, however you should be able to solve number of sample questions or simulation tests before taking the actual exam.

These 5-day crash courses teach you how to take the test, not about project management. The assumption is the students have a certain level of knowledge and experience going in, with having already begun the studying process. This class would be the 'cherry on top' so to speak, to help finalize the preparation and give confidence for going into the test.

Cheetah Learning is one you can look into. They have some good ideals around the exam, like healthy body, healthy mind.

Good Luck!

I would recommend you read the "small letter" and the conditions for those "guarantee passing"

Good luck

Hi Michael,

The PMP certification from PMI.org requires 35 hours of education (this would presumably be acquired in that crash course that you mention) and that you have 4500 hours of experience leading or directing projects (7500 hours if you do not have your Bachelor's degree). These hours have to be documented as part of the application process with PMI.

If you don't yet have the required experience to get your PMP, I would still suggest that you join PMI and get your CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) until you gain the experience to get your PMP.

Just my .02 cents. :)
