A question was recently asked about adding a new knowledge area to the PMBOK Guide:

https://www.projectmanagement.com/discussi...t-do-you-think-

I don't know which ITTOs the inquirer had in mind for this knowledge area, but my initial thought was that this represents work that, for the most part, the PM wouldn't perform.

When responding to another question about the PMBOK Guide:

https://www.projectmanagement.com/discussi...he-PMBOK-guide-

...I used the guide as a reference for responding. In the process of going through it, it dawned on me that there are a number of things in the guide that the PM isn't responsible for executing, but it doesn't say who should be responsible for completing them.

IMO, a helpful addition to the PMBOK Guide would be a RACI chart for each knowledge area. When you look at the ITTOs, not all of them are things that the PM should be responsible for identifying, creating, or, possibly even managing, in some cases. Some examples are:

• Updating requirements documentation
• Prototyping
• Process analysis
• Training the Project Team

…to name a few. What do you think about a RACI chart for each knowledge area? How would you improve the PMBOK Guide? What content or structure would you add to increase its usefulness as a tool for managing projects?
