I have a deep interest towards PM and would like to excel my career in the field of project management.

I am a B Tech with 8 years of experience.

I would like to pursue higher studies in USA. So firstly I would like to know should I pursue MS in Project Management or MBA or Executive MBA.

Secondly I would like to know should I go for MS first or attain my PMP and
then plan for higher studies (either MS in Project Management or MBA or EMBA)

Thirdly should I do my MS in Project Management and then get my PMP or should I do PMP and then plan for MS in Project Management or MBA.

Anon I will reply only to your question regarding when to obtain your PMP. Doing certification relies on experience much more than education. One of the criteria to be eligible for certification is education related to project management, but the more difficult criteria is the year of experience you need in the different knowledge areas. If we assume that you satisfy the experience criteria then you would probably be better of finishing your studies to contribute towards the education criteria. If you already satisfy the education criteria then there really is not preference.

Thank you Anton for your guidance.

So if I understand you correctly then I should go for PMP certification first and then do Masters in Project Management field to get more in-depth knowledge.

Would you be able to advise me if I should do MS in Project Management or MBA?

Since you have a deep interest in PM, get the PMP and a Master's in PM. MBA is more of a generalist degree, though there are those MBA programs with a project managment concentration.

My suggestion is to find a good program in management, with a concentration in project management. That way, you cover the major topics needed, (i.e. strategy, economics, leadership, etc.) which you will need for project management, and also have some specific courses in PM (Hopefully covering what you will need for a PMP).

Our program here at Catholic University provides such a program, as do many other institutions

Bellevue University - I earned my Masters in Project Management recently and really enjoyed the professors, the online environment, and peer-to-peer relations. It is a terminal degree with nothing but pure project management.
