Software PM Scheduling Tool

I am currently developing a solution which will incorporate techniques to enable the user to build a General Activity Network. This type of network utilises PERT as well as GERT, thereby allowing the use of iterative processes and probabilistic branching which in turn will produce a more realistic scheduling system. I am at university and this is my final year project which I chose because PM is my chosen career path. Any comments, suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated. I am building it as an add-in to MS Project assuming it is the most widely used application. This tool is primarily aimed at software developers and R&D projects although it can be used just as well for other types of projects. Thank you for taking your time to read this.

I've also posted this under Process Improvement as it also covers scheduling processes as well as the application side.

Dear Punit, good look on your development effort. MS Project is a fine, widely accepted tool to build an add-in for. We are seeing quite a lot of software development organizations using Rational Unify Process (RUP) along with their Rational Tools. Now that IBM has acquired Rational, that is likely to increase. RUP does not do what you are seeking to build. You might have a quick look at RUP to see if there are any development synergies with respect to your product. Internally, we do iterative software development and use MS Project. And our product, Processes On Demand, provides both a traditional SDLC process and a RAD process for software development. When you get to a beta stage, I would be happy to test drive your product with my team for consideration internally and externally. Very best regards and good luck. -- Mark Perry, VP of Customer Care, BOT International

Mark, thank you for your reply. As my time is limited on the project, so is the software I am creating. However, once I have got to a stage where it can be tested, I would greatly appreciate if you could have a look at the application. What would be the best way to contact you about this? Kind regards, Punit.

Dear Punit, please feel free to contact me via email me at [email protected] or live chat with me from our website at http://www.botinternational.com Also, will you be at the May 13th and 14th QAI Project Management Leadership Conference in Bangalore? Perhaps we can connect up at that time. Very best regards. -- Mark Perry, VP of Customer Care, BOT International
