Hello,
I'm a MBA student in project management and I'm currently working on my final project. My main objective in this project would be to create a guide explaining how to make improvements and/or to deploy from the scratch the knowledge management process in an organization. However, it is a relatively new subject and unfortunately still complicated to find useful information about it. Thus, I would really appreciate any help you could provide me, for example, sharing your thoughts and experience. I'd be quite grateful!  Thanks and Regards!

Hi Graziella,

Knowledge Management is a way of thinking - ideally with a qualified knowledge management team ideas and steps for capturing knowledge can be discussed throughtout the organization. Knowledge management practitioners can spread out and begin to capture information, share best practices for capturing information, and create Communities of Practice, whereas a designated advocate could lead further efforts, so on and so forth.
Where does this information go? How is it organized? Who maintains it? All good questions. This step is important, as it will be the foundation moving forward. Platform, taxonomy, useability, findability, accessibility, etc. Knowledge Management is not simply dumping documents into a repository. Knowledge Management is a practice, a way of thinking, not a 'thing' that is done as a once and forget.

Good Luck!

Knowledge management is not a new topic. The problem is it becomes a buzzword in last years. I was involved in several initiatives mainly because it close relation to Agile. Take a look to www.kminstitute.org and search inside the IBM site where you can find the best works on the field starting in 1970.

Knowledge Management - the word itself suggests it is simply not storing or saving info. It is how we proceed along the way in terms of using the knowledge gained. I agree with Andrew it totally is a practice. Sometimes, the words seem difficult as they sound different, but really it is a practice we learn and apply.

@Andrew, I shall go through the links as well, to learn more :-) Thanks for sharing those links.

Hi Graziella,

The term “Knowledge Management” is not new, it was born in the 90s, practitioners and organizations have different definitions and uses. It differs from ECM (enterprise content management) all the way to “Tacit knowledge” collection (as opposed to formal, codified or explicit knowledge)

Recently, there was new definition to KM with the use of Artificial Intelligence and machine learning to assist in the capture, management, and pattern of human knowledge. Google is a major player in this area

Good luck
