Please, I need some help in my dissertation project. I am conducting a doctoral study project to explore how managers can minimize wasted work time by limiting the personal Internet activity of employees who use personal mobile devices while on the job.
The purpose of this project is to explore reliable ways that can be used by organizational leaders to minimize wasted work time by limiting the personal Internet activity of employees who use personal mobile devices while on the job. A possible positive social change implication of this study may lead to improved employee productivity by preventing employees from wasting some of their working hours by browsing, chatting, and texting instead of focusing on their job. I have observed in some of my experiences in working as an Instructional Assistant substitute in different schools that there are some teachers who waste time by spending a lot of time using mobile devices on personal use. The assumption is that many students may not have the full quality time in their educational progress because the teachers are busy with these mobile devices.
I need to interview HR Managers or IT Managers or Project Managers or Front Supervisor, (Business analyst can help me in this matter?). I need to gather information related on what strategies and technologies may be used by organizational leaders to control cyberloafing behaviors of employees. I need the interview process by phone or Skype if possible. The interview will be scheduled at your most convenient time, I need this interview for my dissertation. If you cannot I can send you the questions and you can answer them by writing or recording your answers. If you decide to participate in my study, I will deliver to you an informed consent form, Letter of cooperation, and all other documents you may request for your review and signature. Just one comment: the worst thing you can do is what you try to justify into your doctoral tesis. My recommendation is to change it by researching if the use is creating wasted time or not. You will surprise.

I like your idea, but my research problem confirms there are wasting of time. It is not formulated to test hypotheses (if the use is creating wasted time). I need to find ways (strategy and technology) to limit this undesirable behavior(cyberloafing) while on the job. Thank you!

While I understand that it could depend on the culture (and I am leading multi cultural programs) this is not a wasted of time and the worst thing you can do is trying to limit it. In fact, my current work place put me leading a hugh project that demands two years when they understand that the worst thing to do is limit it. But ok, good luck.

The best thing I can do is I can limit the mobile usage for personal purpose while on the job. The employees come to the work for doing their job not to text, chat or browsing and waste working time, they can do their personal activity at their home. The workplace is not their private place, put yourself instead of the employer and your employees waste the work time by using their mobiles in the most of time for personal activity not to do their work or emergency situation. You are paying for them to do their job while they don’t deserve the amount they get and the job is not complete. Employees can use the lunch time or break time to do whatever they need but during working hours, they have to do their job in the best way. I believe in something there is no privacy or freedom at work place, we come to work and we must do it in the right way. If employer comes to you and tell you his business loss much of money, he doesn’t know what the reasons. When you do your research, gather information, analyze the data, you noticed that employees waste the work time by surfing, online gaming, text and chatting, and for that reasons the job not complete in the right way or in the meantime, what you will do? Do you say to employer that the worst thing you do is limiting the usage? Please thinking again and again, the worst thing is waste work time by using it for our personal activity. Thank you!
