What should be included in a project portfolio for job applications? What is a good format to follow?

I was recently asked to provide a project portfolio in addition to my CV and motivation letter for a particular job application. I am not sure what specifics should go into the portfolio, what the format should be, whether to use a Word Doc. or PowerPoint, whether to include sample documents from past projects, etc. (of which I have none). I have no clue. Would a bullet summary be sufficient for each project listed? Any advice would be great!

Brandon,
Google can help you get some templates for reference. I personally have used PPT as a template in which
#1. First Slide included
1. Executive Summary,
2. Grouping of projects in a program (if applicable) and using graph to
a. List of all projects within each program
b. List of projects that are completed, in progress & Yet to Start
c. List of projects that are in green, red or yellow (include what those indicators mean in the footnote)
Also in the slide include list of summary of
3. Achievements,
4. Risks &
5. Activities that need management attention

#2. List of Completed, In Progress (% complete), On Hold and Yet to Start Projects with hyperlinks to specific slide for each project, which included elaborate status

#3. Next Slides were more specifics for each project and can include
a. Project Executive Summary
b. Names of Key Stakeholders including Project Sponsor, Tech / Project Lead & Project Manager
c. Status (%)
d. Indicator (Red, Green or Yellow)
e. Start Date
f. End Date
g. Current Risks
h. Risk Mitigations
i. Upcoming Milestones
j. Current Accomplishments
k. Action Items (Id, Name, Owner, ETA, Comments)

Hope this helps. Reach out to me if you like the template

I haven't had to submit a project portfolio, but I try to track key projects so that I can discuss them and/or include them in my resume. I typically include:
* Brief description of the project and it's deliverables
* Budget
* Duration of project
* Successes and failures

I wouldn't include the successes and failures in something I submitted, but I would be prepared to talk about them.

What I have see is list of projects with information on value, date/duration, your role, small description of accomplishments.

Past document, I would check who own them? Your former employer

Include following:
Title, Technology, Budget, team size, Role, Client, Duration and Value addition.
Value addition is nothing but your role and business value you have added during project implementation.

Curious, seems redundant of the resume itself. I have put together a portfolio that highlighted my efforts around transparency and exposure of project related items - SharePoint project site, status reports, etc. The portfolio was 4 or 5 slides. My resume itself has specific details of highlighted projects.

Take in mind that each country have their "preferences" and formats about porfolios, resumes and things like that...few weeks ago I was asked to sumit a video-porfolio for a project manager position.

My recomendation, be sincere and original! Good luck with your application.
