I've got a client who believes Product Life Cycle Software is the same as Project Life Cycle Software. Help! I need some assistance on explaining the difference. Thanks

Dear Liz, you said your client "believes" as opposed to "thinks"... Don't waste any more time explaining the difference. If this is an unimportant issue in the scheme of things, just ignore it. If it is important and your client is being purposefully not helpful, then try this; it always works. Ask your client for permission to speak to him privately and off the record. Once permission is given, then sternly and sincerely say the following, "Sir, there is, and you should know, the difference between Product and Project Life Cycle Software. You, sir, are being an obstinate ass." Count to three and then turn your back and leave. If he makes a comment, ignore it. If he asks a question or asks you to "explain the difference to him one more time", then tell him your hourly rate for client consultation and that you will be happy to schedule a time with him to explain the difference. My experiences with this technique have been: nine times out of ten, you will have just made a client for life; one time out of ten, you will have confused your client; and not once, will you lose your client. Of course, I suppose there is always a first time. Good luck..! -- Mark Perry, VP of Customer Care, BOT International

How can you make a client for life that you just insulted?

Dear Anonymous, insult wasn't intended; but you raise an excellent point and observation. In order for a private, off the record, exchange to work, one should seek to be non-insulting and to the point. Good pick and thanks...! -- Mark Perry, VP of Customer Care, BOT International
