Very important to read the PMBOK, and then use the simulators initially by area of knowledge and then the total of 200 questions of 4 hours to measure times and be well prepared.

Ramachandran Swaminathan Regional Delivery Manager| Oracle Consulting India Bangalore, Karnataka, India
Here's how my journey was. I passed PMP in Dec-2012 on my first attempt

1. 5 day instructor led course for PMP certification from QAI
2. 2 weeks for preparation of application and contacting my previous managers/co-workers to support my experience
3. 5-6 months hardwork. Read and understood 'Headfirst PMP' completely(It is a wonderful book).
4. Spend 1-2 hours on PMP preparation everyday irrespective of my schedule even if that meant I need to be awake till 2:00 AM .
5. 3-4 online mock tests from QAI Global

And the result is
1. Cleared PMP on first attempt
2. Lot of grey hair on my head. :-)

My journey was similar to Ramachandran's.

Betsy Green Onboarding Manager| TownNews.com Moline, Il, United States
1. Two six week long PMP Prep courses (which I mainly took to get my 35 contact hours)
2. Spent one week on each chapter of the PMBOK, which I supplemented with Head First PMP and Rita's book.
3. Spent 4 weeks taking practice exams and reviewing concepts that I was struggling with
4. Took the test and did quiet in-chair victory dance when I passed on my first attempt
