How does six sigma related to project management? Is six sigma a project management process?

Dear Anonymous, good question. Most people view Six Sigma is a process improvement methodology; the output of which are projects which would be managed following a project management process. One way to look at it is, a Six Sigma process improvement effort produces projects; but not all projects in the portfolio are as a result of a six sigma process improvement effort. Hope this helps! -- Mark Perry, VP of Customer Care, BOT International

I would say project management is a vehicle (or a set of tools and techniques) to help you on your Six Sigma (DMAIC, for example) process improvement efforts.

Here is my take. We have projects and then we have projects that employ six sigma. Six sigma is project management fine tuned to predetermined precision. In the end, if you can identify how employing six sigma has contributed to your bottom line, then I would consider that a success- from a financial perspective.
