Clearly communicate the objective. The stakeholder/s you negotiate with need to know What Is In It For Them. You you cannot clearly express this during the start of your negotiations you will have a had time getting them on board.

Profile your audience. Make sure you know who you are negotiating with, not just names and titles but influence. So you need to do stakeholder analysis. Remember that power does not equate to influence. So don't suck up to the boss by default, the typist might be a better bet when you negotiate.

Do NOT underestimate your customer. People who think their customers are stupid are actually stupid. You customer might very well be the most intelligent devious (in a good way) opponent/partner you will ever have.

I was trained in Harvard with Fisher and Ury because Harvard University is client of the company where I worked time ago. You will find the papers for free just in case you can not buy the books. What helps a lot to me (the only negotiation experience I had was with my wife (jejejejejje)) is all related to negotiation preparation.

You should prepare well for your negotiations. Especially, determine who you have to negotiate with and their views in the points will be negotiated.
