Hello Everyone! I am new to the community and recently made a decision to obtain a PMP certification. While I do see that there are in person, week long classroom training (that are too costly for me), I wanted to see if anyone had a reference for another option to obtain the 35 contact hours needed. There are some advertisements that offer PMP exam prep subscriptions for much cheaper ($180) but I'm just wary of paying for that and then finding out I still have to pay for a very expensive classroom training. Any advice for someone first starting out is graciously appreciated.
You can obtain the 35 contact hours through any REP and they do offer online courses which gives you the hours. Have a look at LearnSmart and or Instructing.com. Saving Changes...

Hi Cheikh
Agree but we can answer with certainty --- all we need is for someone to check the PMP Handbook by PMI instead of depending on opinions.
To pass my PMP, I completed the course PMP Exam Prep: Earn Your PMP Certification by Joseph Phillips on Udemy.com for 35 PDUs - it is a REP certified program. I just looked on the website and it is on sale for $10 for ten hours - that is a 95% discount. In addition to this course I went through Aileen Ellis' book and I passed my PMP exam on the first try. Good Luck! Saving Changes...

Hey Eileen,
i am a bit late (was on vacation ;) ) ... but maybe it is still useful to you (or some other aspirants).
Regarding your topic you may refer to the following guide:

I passed the PMP Certification test on my first attempt in April of this year, and did not pay for an expensive test prep course. Instead I followed the plan in the book "Be a PMP Ace in 30 Days" by Roji Abraham. Has good links to free test sites. Also has you purchase 2 study great guides.

The plan is structured around "normal" work schedule, but to be fair, I was not working at the time and did complete before the 30 day mark. I believe that I spent about 120 hours or slightly more in study. I do not believe that I would have been able to completely grasp all of the information or to memorize the required material in a 4-5 day class. And also, frankly I do better with my own individual study as opposed to group study. This approach worked great for me and was certainly the economical choice. Good luck!
I followed his schedule order, and did all the tests that I could do. So I think this is an inexpensive way to study for the test. Saving Changes...
I did all my training online. Joseph Philips has a course for cheap (with coupon code) on Udemy. I also took Simplilearn's PMP course ($140 after discount code) but Joseph's is cheaper if you can use a coupon code.
No in class training required. Best of luck! Saving Changes...

Best Online PMP Training Generally a PMP training is available in 3 different modes. 1. Classroom Training 2. Self-learning mode - simply called Online Training 3. Instructor-led mode - called Live Online Training There are obvious pros & cons of each mode but self-learning courses are cheapest. Generally speaking online training means self-learning training but online training can also mean instructor-led training. Since, your question is about online training so let me talk about both self-learning & instructor-led training courses. Best Self-Learning Course These courses are good if you are self-motivated and have got good self-discipline. You will have to define your schedule and stick to it. You can save a lot of money by enrolling into a self-learning course - generally these courses costs between $200-$400. I have written a detailed article to review & compared 6 top self-learning training courses. These course are are generally much better for exam prep than the self-learning courses. You will have to shell out extra money if you decide to enroll into a instructor-led course - generally these courses costs between $200-$2000. I have written a detailed article to review & compared 6 top instructor-led training courses.
Cost can vary greatly...have you queried your local PMI Chapter? I know in our chapter we offer PMP cert trainings at a very reasonable cost. Saving Changes...
