Hello Everyone! I am new to the community and recently made a decision to obtain a PMP certification. While I do see that there are in person, week long classroom training (that are too costly for me), I wanted to see if anyone had a reference for another option to obtain the 35 contact hours needed. There are some advertisements that offer PMP exam prep subscriptions for much cheaper ($180) but I'm just wary of paying for that and then finding out I still have to pay for a very expensive classroom training. Any advice for someone first starting out is graciously appreciated.

Regards,
Eileen

Welcome to the community! It’s great that you’ve decided to pursue the PMP certification. It’s a solid credential that can really enhance your project management career. Your question about affordable ways to earn the 35 contact hours is a common one, especially for learners trying to balance cost and quality.

There are several reliable online options to meet the PMP contact hour requirement without spending a fortune on in-person classes. Many accredited platforms offer self-paced or instructor-led online courses that are officially recognized by PMI. These online programs typically include video lectures, quizzes, and practice exercises, all designed to give you the foundational project management knowledge needed for the exam.

As someone who’s also preparing for technical certifications like the AZ-400 (Microsoft DevOps Engineer Expert) exam, I can relate to your concern about cost versus quality. While preparing for that, I learned the importance of supplementing paid courses with practice materials such as az 400 exam questions to get familiar with real-world scenarios and test patterns. The same approach applies to PMP; once you complete your 35 hours, practice with sample questions and mock exams to test your understanding.

In short, online PMP prep courses are perfectly valid, cost-effective, and widely used by professionals. Just make sure the provider is PMI-authorized, and you’ll be on the right track toward certification success.
