Below is an email that I sent to PMI. I was trying to get some advanced feedback on whether my appraisal projects would conform to the experience requirements. In studying the five processes of project management and relating them to what I do in my appraisal work I follow the same processes in completing the appraisal reports. The Institute customer service only advised me to complete the 35 hours and submit an application and they would look over it. That’s about $1500 or so and many hours of commitment work from where I am now to just see if my experience will apply. I reasonably believe it will conform, however it is not solely up to me and I know this. Can you give me any advise?
Hi,
I am considering perusing the PMI Certification. I am a certified Real Estate Appraiser with over 12 years experience working as a full time appraiser. I am heavily involved with projects ranging from commercial construction projects to residential construction projects including subdivision developments. In my work I must create a complete picture of the project along with all costs and resources involved and must create a finished report detailing the project as well complete additional research to justify and report a value to the project. I have used programs such as MS Project in conjunction with my planning in order to define and stay on task so that the project will be completed as planned. By LAW I must maintain, and present upon request, research backup and reports to the GA State Regulations Board for a minimum of five years on each project. The information is contained in stacks of boxes and in digital formats. I have completed over five thousand total appraisal projects in my career and each project can take from a few hours to weeks in order to coordinate and complete the project. I have also coordinated construction of my personal home and office remodeling project. In addition I have completed projects such as new business startups including my appraisal company (www.appraisalpro.net)and SouthernLINC (www.souwc.com) Dealership Startup company, webpage development, new business development projects, business computer network integration projects, as well as other various projects from community leadership, local development authority projects and civic endeavors. At the time of application I can provide detailed conforming models of my projects transferred to the experience requirement pages in the handbook which I will forward after I complete the 35 contact hour requirements. Please advise if there would be any problem with the above projects conforming to your defined experience requirements and I will be more than happy to supply you with references you may call or any further documentation you would need.
Thank You,
Michael Bracewell

Dear Michael, if you are seeking to obtain your PMP, I would recommend that you contact one of the many excellent PMI Registered Education Provider (REP) PMP certification training firms. They can discuss with you their program options such as classroom based and/or online and answer your questions regarding requirements and the application process. If you need a reference or contact, I would suggest that you visit or call Cheetah Learning at http://www.cheetahlearning.com/ They have a very effective and enjoyable PMP training program as do many other training providers. Good luck. -- Mark Perry, VP of Customer Care, BOT International Saving Changes...
Thanks for the post and referral. I have been doing some additional research and reading. It appears to me that I would qualify for the experience requirements. I think I was somewhat confused as to wheather mentoring was a requirement. IE. The only way to get appraiser experience is to work under the direct supervision of another appraiser.
