Project Sponsors mainly exist in many organizations to support project managers and remove projects obstacles. However ,sometimes the project sponsor hinder the project to progress . They take decisions that does not help projects to success? why do you think sometimes project sponsors does not help projects ? what are the root causes that influence their behavior? Something mostly missing is: the sponsor must protect "politically" the project. On the other hand, decisions must not be made in isolation. In fact, most of the decision must be taken because the project change management process.

you are right sometimes sponsors take decisions in isolation. However, I was actually wondering about the root causes that let sponsors make bad decisions. For example ,is it because of lack of leadership or lack of project management knowledge and awareness about the project management process or something else.

Remember that the project sponsor has responsability for more than just your project. She may be responsible for additional projects or even strategic operations. Your project is one of many priorities.

Bad or Better are subjective matters. And decisions are taken based on information. Project manager is accountable for putting all the information in hands of people that must take the decision. But Project manager can not evaluate the decision because they do not have all the needed information. The information the project manager have is about the project but not the whole picture about the program or portfolio.

Bad or Better are subjective matters. And decisions are taken based on information. Project manager is accountable for putting all the information in hands of people that must take the decision.
