I have been assigned the task of conducting a Project Portfolio Software offerings research. The need for a project portfolio at our company stems from:
• Managing our annual planning process via excel spread sheet
• Lack of a corporate portfolio management system
• Time consuming data collection from different resources
• Lack of centralized resource tracking

I wanted to touch base with you to see if anyone has already conducted some research on the vendors in this area and also on the SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis for these vendors. If so, are you willing to share OR provide me some direction in terms of the vendors, reference materials…etc

Thanks for your help and it’s much appreciated

After you finish your research, implement Microsoft Project Server. You can't go wrong with Microsft EPM.

IF you have MS EPM installed as a good base for all your project and program management tools requirements, you should consider the PPM tool form PMSolutions. It is called ProSight and is tightly integrated with EPM. THey have a strong alliance with Microsoft. I have not used the tool but the demo pacakge i reviewed met most if not all PPM tool requirements.

ProSight is a portfolio management software product and it is provided by ProSight, Inc., not PM Solutions. For more information on ProSight, http://www.prosight.com/solutions/index.asp

There are a lot of Portfolio Management and IT PPM vendors out there but one that is more focused on people and project for service based organisations that may be worth a look is Atlantic Global's Corporate Vision. Also there is a magic quadrant out there which may help (Gartner).

Take a look at www.interneer.com. Their Intellect product is being used by some major brand corporations. Their biggest strength is the amount of flexibility and configurability they give the business user. I haven't seen anything like it.
