I have a very complex software transition and process improvement project with a State division of motor vehicles. Using MS Project 98 as the primary mngt tool. Contract requires C/SSR and earned value reporting. Have multiple sources of data from in house main frame and subcontractor invoices. Trying to use MS Access to automate data input ot MS Project. Has anybody out there had any success in implementing this type of automation?

Are you attempting to use the native .mpp file format for MS project?? You can save the .mpp file as an Access database and use SQL to pump data into and out of the project file. Once you convert to .mdb you can still use the MS Project interface same as before.

Depending upon the timing and size of your system, you might take a look at Project 2000. MS has finally begun the transition to "Enterprise" project management by opening its back-end to Oracle as well as SQL*Server. If your mainframe systems are large, depending upon their back-end, this might be a nice alternative.
