Hello Folks,

I am assigned the task of implementing CMMI initiatives in my company. To brief you about the company. The company does not have any specific processes for the Project executions. There are some standards but it is not followed and records are not maintained.

I plan to start of by taking a pilot project and implementing systems for Level 2 (Staged Representation)by satisfying the PA's.

Pls advise me whether iam right or wrong, and what could be the other possible strategies..

Pls advise me on the documentation aspects also.

Thanks Friends,

Sachin

Sachin, Good luck on your effort. I would suggest you adopt a strategy on the pilot that incorporates a mentoring process to help the team learn how to follow a formal process. I also think that you should not focus on a specific CMM level but do the project in a way that yields the most sustainable results in terms of a repeatable process, specifications that stand independent of the designers, etc.
This will most likely take you to a level 3 to 4 of CMM.
I also suggest you take a look at BOT Internationals process on demand. It could help you jump start the effort.

Take Care

Sachin,
My suggestion too is in line with Mike's.
There are tools available to help organizations gradually adapt to CMMi processes. Once the team is comfortable then get associated with CMMi lead assessors to take you thru certification.

A tool I have come across consulting with the Navy, government integrators as well as large IS departments is Process Max (www.processmax.com). It includes a full set of compliant processes so that you don't need to have your folks offline in process actions teams, which everyone quickly gets tired of.
