Hi Mahalmadane,
One of the techniques I have used to develop active listening skills is called "Parroting". Once the person is through speaking you repeat back to them, what you heard them say, in your own words and confirm that is what they said.
I also like to focus on what the person is saying, not how I am going to reply.
Good Luck.

- Face the speaker, make eye contact - Be attentive - Keep an open mind - Listen attentively, picture what the speaker is saying - Don't interrupt or impose your own solutions - Clarify if needed, when the speaker pauses - Pay mind to nonverbal cues
Thanks a lot for your help my dear friend Mr Andrew.

You need to keep focused on what you hear, trying to avoid letting your mind go
If your mind remains in one idea or phrase, ask to repeat the idea
Never assume what the other means, if you have doubs, ask!

Are you married? That could help you...Key is: when the other is speaking do not try to understand what she/he said, just listen carefully.

Thanks for your help my dear friend Sergio. And by the way I am not married.
Thanks for the reference to TEDTalk very good.
Active listening you need to be in that conversation, not on some other problem or texting. Maybe basic but you probably know of many who do it!

Hello Mahalmadane: I love active listening, but is not always easy for me to do. Some tips from me are similar to my peers: eye contact, relaxed attention, open mind, no interruptions, not solving, wait, think about the other persons feelings as they share them with you, get feedback. This builds relationships, creates new open ways of thinking, diffuses emotions and helps PM's avoid costly errors. Listening can improve work quality and boost productivity, poor listening leads to innumerable mistakes.
