Project driven by process orientation, one may tend to loose focus of Customer/Stakeholder needs and vice versa Quality can loose focus.

Processes are in place to help steer projects in the right direction to ensure the customer needs are met. Customer needs are plain and simple, don't let your project activities mess with their operations.

Balance is everything and as PMs we have to be aware of this especially when it comes to customers and processes. Processes should be reviewed to ensure they are still relevant and repeatable. Issues come up when the project teams forget that processes are guidelines that may not be applicable to all projects, and they get buried under minutiae of processes.

My advice is to be customer-focused and keep in mind that projects with quality built from the onset have a great probability of succeeding. It shouldn't be process vice customer. Our projects should be driven by both.

Fully agree with Edward. I am doing SAP implementation prpject for quite some time. Of course, you need to understand customer needs and requirements. Without process orientation starting from Value Chains down to transaction level you won't succeed. Also the epics and stories in an agile practice follow some kind of process orientation.

Perhaps I did not understand well but there is a big mistake in your statement. Why is the reason to define functions/process inside an organization?: because they are the mean to respond to environmental stimulus in order to survive, growth and develop. Functions/Process are defined with basement on strategy. And strategy is defined when the organization defines the client which will generate those environmental stimulus. So, it is impossible to say that process are not aligned with client.
