MS Project 2003 questions...can anyone help???

Hello. Not been working with project for long hence the basic nature of the questions...

1. having already setup a project i'm now in a position where i have to change the working time for all resources on the project. I know how to do this but know that as a consequence of the change all durations for tasks are going to change....how do i set project to keep the duration fixed and to just change the effort required for each item?
2. Simple formatting issue: I'm having problems working out how to 'wrap text' within any particular column....anyone have the answer?

Any advice would be very much appreciated!
