Ron,
I agree with Frank - PMI has a nice write-up on such software. They also publish an annual survey with quite a bit of good information. If you are currently using a product such as MS-Project, you might take a look at their 2000 release - you can now implement this in a web based environment with an Oracle back-end - something more robust for departmental use -- rather than a larger scale system such as PlanView, Primavera or ABT. Quite a bit depends upon how far you plan to extend the system BEYOND the 100 users. Saving Changes...
Deja.com (http://www.deja.com) has a product searcher, which lets you enter in product categories and get a list of products and reviews from users. It's a little difficult to navigate, but it can be handy when looking for products and user feedback. Saving Changes...

I am looking for a tool which help me to structure the PM approach in a team mainly formed of beginners. I want to implement PMI approach. Is there anybody with some experience with PMOffice from systemcorp ? Saving Changes...
We use MS Project (98) in our E/C business for several reasons. It will do all you wish to use it for, it is relatively easy to master, and it probably has the greatest user base which is good for file sharing with clients & customers. It has its flaws, but unless you are managing HUGE projects (then use Primavera P3), I suggest it is the best choice. There are a number of aftermarket add-ins that assist in integrating it with accounting packages, etc.
I am currently training young(er) PMs in use of the software for bidding and tracking, and they are finding it relatively easy to learn.
I have also used SureTrack, find it creates better Gantt charts, but the financial management is mor difficult to use. Saving Changes...
Does anyone have any experience/feedback on using a Professional Services Automation (PSA) tool called Changepoint? Saving Changes...

I am also looking to add to our corporate toolkit. We use MSProject 98 (with no plans to move to 200 at this time), along with some homegrown tools built in Access and Excel, with reports produced in Word.
Our biggest need right now is a comprehensive resource planning tool we can use at the team level. My team does not need to schedule specific individuals (that's up to each team manager), but we need aggregate views to assist with project and resource planning at a departmental level.
I have built a status reporting tool in Access that works pretty well for that task, but attempts to turn it into a resource planning, forecasting and estimating tool were ill-conceived. I have also built a fairly workable solution in Excel, but Excel just isn't wide enough. Sometimes the horizontal data could be bigger than 256 columns.
I started with the search tool here at gantthead and I came up with about a number of possibles, such as Scitor, PlanView, Projeca, RightTrack, OpenAir and Welcom.
Any thoughts on these or other tools? We will have a user base of about 15 to start with (say, 4-6 months from now) and likely expand to about 50 in the following 12 or so months. I don't see us ever getting to the point where this type of tool is used by the remaining 250 members of IS.
My company uses Lotus Notes as their email client. MSProject is base on using Exchange server. Does anyone know of a PM tool that works well with Notes? Saving Changes...
