Hi all, this is my first post, and maybe its like Duh!!!. But, I want to attend a PM course , and I want to know what is the best way to justify it. I got some ideas from the course itself, but any help will be appreciated.

Dear Leo, good post, not at all "duh"..! Sometimes management can be numbed by unplanned or budgeted requests of any kind to spend money. Not approving such requests often is a common "knee-jerk" reaction. One approach to ensure that this doesn't happen is to jointly develop with your manager an annual individual development plan (IDP) and to execute, update, and review it periodically, say once a quarter. Most organizations have a budget for employee skills development, some even delegate the budget to the employee to plan and select the most appropriate skills improvement programs and classes. In either case, jointly developing and executing your IDP with your manager will enable you to attend the classes and programs you need and your manager to best manage the budget rather than being caught off guard by such requests. Also helpful is if you can identify immediate, marked, and sustained actions that you will be able to take or improvements that you will be able to make (individually or as a team) on account of attending the training in order to share the training with others in the organization and apply new skills in the workplace. Hope this helps a bit. Good luck. -- Mark Perry, VP of Customer Care, BOT International
