Can someone explain this statement " Heuristics do not always yield an optimal schedule, but they are very capable of yielding a "good" schedule for very networks with many types of resources"? thank you

Heuristics are rules of thumb or information processing shortcuts that are used when there isn't time, information or ability to consider all variables and arrive at the optimal solution. The expectation is that heuristics will deliver "good-enough" or adequate solutions.

People are not perfect and the more uncertainty and complexity is in the project, the less prediction is useful when people try to use complicated tools or so. Heuristics might be nothing but just a short cut to lead quick and effective answer in many cases if used properly.

The more variables in your schedule, the more difficult it will be to get a precise schedule.
