I am looking for examples of status reports used by project managers working multiple projects which you use for your own internal use. I currently keep a log on an excel spreadsheet but suspect there are better options out there. Appreciate your insight

I use a whiteboard by my desk. Each project is color-coded. I note schedule, upcoming tasks, etc.

Short of opting for a PPM tool, you're probably looking a cobbling something together. I, also, used Excel predominantly. Some of it, you can do it MS Project by defining your projects as sub-projects of a master project.

If you have access to SharePoint, you could create a site to track status with a list, task/timeline, or form/list combination. You could also use MS Project to capture high-level information across the multiple projects. You can leverage their canned reports and timeline.

Just a couple of ideas. Not necessarily better, each simply have different advantages.
