Here are some that come to mind:
? Project Priority Optimization
? Project Oversight Committee Formation and Management
? Project Rating (rating projects in terms of urgency, ROI, window of opportunity, market positioning, etc.)
? Project Management
• Opportunity identification (based on gap between current operational realities and the organization’s strategic goals and objectives),
• Planning, business case & risk analysis development,
• Presentation & approval,
• Phasing, workplan, & communication development,
• Resourcing (people, facilities, tools, etc.)
• Kick-off & initiation,
• Work assignments
• Progress tracking, monitoring & reporting
• Closure
• Post implementation evaluation (process, participants, outcomes achieved)
? Staff Performance Assessments
Metrics should be based on the outcomes achieved, the quality of the process’ efficiency and effectiveness, quality of the participants in terms of social dynamics, communications and professionalism (usually based on 360 degree evaluations)

Now which of these can be modeled using a tool so that a PM can just instantiate them every time he needs it? Idea is to maintain the repeatability or tweak the process as we gather useful metrics.

Dear Prabhas, excellent post and discussion with Mr. Wood. In response to your question, "which of these processes can be modeled using a tool so that a PM can use as needed..", they all can. You can find a number of solutions via Google, just search on "project management process software". In a project organization context, a good CMMI aligned PM process solution is "ProcessMax" and a good PMBOK aligned PM process solution is "Processes On Demand". These and many other solutions provide both "processes" for de facto standard workflows and "process setup capabilities" for organizational unique processes and best practices. Hope this helps. Best regards. -- Mark Perry, VP of Customer Care, BOT International
