All PMs face the need to solve problems. What is your favorite tool for SELECTING from among potential ideas that could solve the problem? Part 2 - How were you trained on this tool?

Probably brainstorming followed by an affinity diagram.

Two great tools.
Brainstorming is a divergent tool for generating ideas.
Affinity diagrams is a super tool for converging on ideas to develop or to select for further exploration/development.
Thanks!

I was once part of an innovation committee, charged with evaluating and sponsoring ideas.

We simply would assign each idea to a committee member. That person would then contact the idea owner and analyse the ROI on the idea.

The analysed ideas were then discussed and approved by the committee for funding and development. At that point, a project was created to pilot the idea.

If there was a resource of tools or training readily available that were intended as "selection tools" would your team benefit?

I don't see how we could not benefit from having a selection of tools at our disposal, Teresa.

Nothing BUT benefits when we use convergent tools - especially when when follow guidelines of convergent thinking - first and foremost - apply affirmative judgement.
