Hi Pavithra, just a short list of the important documents to a project manager for a project are: the business case (which should be included in the project brief or project charter) and the project management plan. These documents define why and how you and your team are working towards the deliverables. Having said that, all the other documents as defined in PMBOK are also important but these two are the foundation for the rest.

Hi,

from my perspective, you should not think about the needed documents but about the pm processes you need to apply for this specific project and the project result you want to generate.

If you are clear about the needed processes the also needed in- and outputs/deliverables (which are often or mostly documents) come flying by.
But Henk is right - the PMBoK Guide is very helpful with that.

Markus

The planning is the most important part of the project. Not the plan: the planning. Whether you get one or twenty documents out of the planning exercise is unimportant.

It's like asking how many documents should there be in your project management plan.
